Meet Crystabel, who believes that Plus est en vous.🧡
Hiiiii Reader,
"Plus est en vouse" she said, an exotic phrase soon to be known.
Today we shine the spotlight on another of our dedicated volunteers making a significant impact within the Crescent Kids community. Meet Crystabel Nnamdi, whose knowledge of a friend's Sickle cell status inspired her to join our cause in April 2022. I had a one-on-one chat with her and her response reminds me that there is truly more in every single one of us. 1. What inspired you to volunteer with Crescent Kids? "I recently found out, like last year, around this time that a dear friend had sickle Cell and that she went through a terrible Crisis and survived by God's grace.
For me, it was a helpless situation, how can I know more about what my friend is going through?, how can I be a part of it?, how can I educate myself, educate others, how can I make society better for my friends because this person shared their experience with other people, with medics at different points in their lives and at different settings.
I was just inspired to find a way to help this friend and when I came across the opportunity to Volunteer with Crescent Kids, I was just like sure, this will be a really good opportunity."
2. What specific role or tasks do you perform as a volunteer with Crescent Kids? “I am a copywriter and I also do social media management. I just manage content and create content for our social media community and all of that.”
3. How do you feel your volunteer work has made a difference in the lives of children with sickle cell anemia or their families?
“So, there are people on my social media and I am sure that extends to the Crescent Kids community that know more about Sickle cell Anemia (SCA) and are better informed and more equipped to make society better for those with SCA and their families because of the work I am doing.
The education, one day at a time, some of the things that we share, some of the content that I put together is helping people understand really, helping people come to the point where they want to donate towards helping those with sickle Cell and everything in that regard. So, I think my work is making a difference, you know just tiny-tiny one step at a time.”
4. Can you share a memorable experience or moment you've had while volunteering with Crescent Kids? “A memorable experience I had while volunteering with Crescent Kids definitely has to be visiting different hospitals in Abuja with our founder to find out the cost of registration, treatment, counselling, consulting for children with SCA because as you know, Nigeria is a country that minimum wage as at today is like 30,000 naira.
So, we wanted to find out the different medical centers available in Abuja for people to get SCA Care and how much it would cost.
It was a lovely experience doing this with our founder. I learnt so much and I was really impacted. Like two other experience but this is the most memorable I have had volunteering with Crescent Kids.”
5. Share a quote you live by. “It's French, I found it through an animation in 2017- "Plus est en vous" and it means "there is more in you"
Sometimes I think, I get to a point where I am exhausted and I don't know if I have more of myself to give to a particular thing or I don't know if I can tap into more creativity and I am just reminded that there is more, there is more in you.”
So this is Crystabel who thinks there is more in you!
Do you have anything you would like to ask Crystabel or our other volunteers? What about you, what quote do you live by?
